Biography
Dr. G. A. Thivakaran, Chief Principal Scientistin Coastal and Marine Ecology Division, completed his M.Sc., M.Phil and PhD in Marine Biology from Centre of Advanced Study in Marine Biology, Annamalai University, Tamilnadu during 1980 to 1989. He has 27 years of post doctoral experience in areas such as intertidal ecology, mangroves, marine and coastal monitoring and seawater chemistry. He is a NABET accredited Co-ordinator for ports and harbours sector. He underwent training at Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), Woods Hole, Boston, USA in Marine ecology. Earlier, he served in Tamil University, Thanjavur, Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. He joined Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology, Bhuj during 1998 where he is presently serving as Chief Principal Scientist. He has completed nearly 30 short term and long term projects and published 35 research papers in peer reviewed journals.
