Biography

Dr. Kannan is a Scientist at the Terrestrial Ecology Division. Prior to this, he was working as a Wildlife Biologist at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Tamilnadu. He was also associated with Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai, P.G. and Research Department of Zoology & Wildlife Biology at AVC College, Mannampandal, Sathyamangalam Tiger Conservation Foundation, Tamil Nadu Trust, Erode, Tamil Nadu and various other NGO’s. From 2000 to 2016, He was working at Pulicat Lake and his Doctoral Study is on the “Ecology of the Near-Threatened Spot-billed Pelican Pelecanus philippensis. He is a member of the IUCN/WI/SSC Pelican Specialist Group (Old World) and has also taken up a voluntary position within the Old World Pelican Specialist Group with the title “Taxon and Regional Coordinator” where in he works on Spot-billed Pelican Pelecanus philippensis, to facilitate initiatives for the conservation of the species, to help broaden our knowledge base for it, to bring together people from all the countries of S and SE Asia (or from elsewhere) which is one of the three species pelican which are listed as “Near Threatened” in the IUCN Red List, and, probably, the one most in need for conservation initiatives.
