Biography
Dr. M. Jaikumar, Senior Scientist & Head, Coastal and Marine Ecology Division holds a Master's Degree in Marine Biology from Alagappa University, Karaikudi and Doctorate degree in Marine Biology from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. After his Ph.D, he worked as Scientist at Aquaculture Foundation of India for a period of 3 years. He was instrumental in Planning and Executing the project at Root level for the fisher folk livelihood as part of seaweed cultivation in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerela. Later, He worked as Project Scientist at National Central for Coastal Research (MoES) in the field of Eco toxicology. After which, he worked as Senior Scientist and Head at M/s Sea6 Energy, Tuticorin, Tamilnadu for 6 years. During the same period, he also worked as Marine Expert and Consultant for Voyant’s Solution, Hyderabad for more than 4 years and also in an Eco-restoration project with Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust, Chennai. He is a Member, Board of Studies of Department of Oceanography and Coastal Area Studies, Alagappa University, Karaikudi. He has taken part in various cruises in East and West Coast sample for Marine studies. He has also worked in various Environmental Impact Assessment studies related to Port and Harbours, Desalination plants, etc. He has also conducted around 10 training programmes on Aquaculture by National Fisheries Development Board and Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute. He has published more than 35 Research papers, 1 Book and 1 Book chapter. He has completed One project on “Seaweed Shrimp feed trials” as Principal Investigator sponsored by Fisheries University, Tamilnadu.
