The Environmental Laboratory Unit of the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Division of GUIDE is accredited by National Accreditation Board for testing and calibration Laboratories (NABL), Quality Council of India in the field of chemical testing (water &waste water) as per ISO/IEC 17025:2005 during 2019-2021. The Laboratory is equipped with state-of-art facilities instruments/equipment viz., Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Ion Chromatography, Spectrofluorophotometer, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Culture Chamber, Automatic Kjeldahl Nitorgen Assembly, Rotavapour, Flame photometer, Respirable Dust Sampler, Fine Particulate Sampler, Stack Monitoring Sampler, VOC Sampler, Flue Gas Analyzer, Handy Samplers, etc., to facilitate analysis of Ambient Air, Stack Emission, Water, Wastewater, Soil, Sediment for Physical, Chemical, Microbial and Biological parameters. The Laboratory facilities at GUIDE undertake regular analysis of Environmental samples related to its in-house research activities, industrial sectors, agriculturists and NGOs.

With its interdisciplinary expertise, the Division has been undertaking various Environmental Monitoring and Marine Monitoring studies with aim of providing ecologically sustainable developments that are environment friendly, economically feasible and socially acceptable. The Division is involved in the following focus areas:

1. Short-term and Long-term Environmental Monitoring programmes focusing on specific issues related to Ambient Air, Stack Emission, Water, Wastewater, Effluent, ETP, STP, Soil, Sediment, Noise Monitoring, Hazardous Waste Characteristics etc.
2. Environmental Auditing of Industries
3. Marine Monitoring studies including assessment of Environmental Contaminants and their Biomagnification potential in Marine systems.
4. Studies on Dredged materials for the presence of contaminants and preparing Environmental Management Plan for Dredged Material management;
5. Trace metal speciation in contaminated environmental matrices such as water, soils etc. and environmental health implications;
6. Regional Strategic Impact Assessment Studies;
7. Facilitating scientific understanding of a given region in terms of its environmental and ecological status in and around the areas of interest and which seek urgent attention – additional data base generation,
8. Suggesting suitable and relevant remedial measures in the form of Management Plan as and when necessary;
