With an aim at developing a referral centre for researchers and students to explore the floral diversity and other related research and academic activities, GUIDE has developed its herbarium with more than plant specimens of different arid and semi-arid regions (Kachchh, Saurashtra and North Gujarat) of the state. The herbarium preserves plant specimens of different major life forms like tree, shrub, herb, grass, climbers, twiners, sedges and parasitic plants. Till date, the herbarium has around 1100 species with around 6000 herbarium sheets. The resource of the Herbarium centre is utilized by students and researchers of various university and research institutions of state as well as Country. The Institute has vision to document the entire floral diversity of Gujarat state in future. A digital herbarium is also being planned for the benefit of research institutions with similar interests, through electronic media.
